2001 Chevrolet Prizm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The first step to replacing a Thermostat includes draining the cooling system then removing the two nuts and the Thermostat Housing which fastens to the cylinder block. After removing the Thermostat Housing you need to extract the Thermostat along with its o-ring. Inspection of the Thermostat cap must remove any present corrosion and debris while checking that both cylinder block mating surfaces remain free of contamination. Check the Thermostat before installing it so you can set the air bleed valve toward the top. Place the new Thermostat along with its o-ring on the cylinder block, screw in the Thermostat Housing and tighten the 2 nuts to specification at 9 nm(80 inch lbs.). Start by pouring approved coolant into the Radiator then start the engine until operating temperature is reached when the hoses feel warm and Radiator begins to flow coolant. The Radiator leaks should be checked before engine shutdown to complete the installation of the Radiator Cap.
