2001 Chevrolet Venture A/C Expansion Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve in the auxiliary system on 2001 Chevrolet Venture?
A: The replacement procedure for A/C expansion valve in the auxiliary system starts with taking out the left lower quarter trim panel. Remove the refrigerant from the system before you take away the foam covering in front of the auxiliary A/C expansion valve. Begin by unscrewing the clamp screws from the HVAC module assembly then remove the clamp before working on the nut from the auxiliary A/C expansion valve line block fitting and the A/C lines from the auxiliary A/C expansion valve. After disconnecting the electrical connector of the auxiliary A/C expansion valve solenoid, properly seal open A/C refrigerant lines only after disconnecting. The auxiliary A/C expansion valve must be detached from its bolts on the evaporator core until you can extract it from the core while discarding the washers. To install the component one needs to remove tape or cap from evaporator lines after cleaning the sealing surfaces with a lint-free cloth. Place mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil on new sealing washers before inserting them onto the A/C line until they reach proper seating position. Use the mounting bolts to fix the auxiliary A/C expansion valve on the evaporator core while tightening them to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). Successively reinstall the auxiliary A/C expansion valve solenoid electrical cable connector while removing protective caps from all A/C lines and repeating the process of surface cleaning. Apply refrigerant oil onto the sealing washers and attach them to the A/C line before tightening the auxiliary A/C expansion valve line block fitting retaining nut to 11 N.m (97 lb in). After fixing the auxiliary A/C expansion valve to the HVAC module assembly secure it with the clamp screw to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in) torque. End the procedure by applying new foam wrapping to the auxiliary A/C expansion valve before evacuating and recharging the A/C system and performing fittings leak detection using a Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) followed by left lower quarter trim panel reinstallation.
