2002 Chevrolet Venture A/C Expansion Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve in the auxiliary system on 2002 Chevrolet Venture?
A: Recovery of refrigerant must be performed before the A/C Expansion Valve (TXV) replacement in the auxiliary system. The next step involves removing the left lower quarter trim panel as well as the foam wrap from the auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve location. The first step includes removing the screws from the A/C Expansion Valve line clamp as well as the clamp from the hvac module assembly while removing the bolt from the auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve line block fitting. After detaching a/c lines from the auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve seal and protect open a/c lines with caps and tape to stop contamination. Start by removing the auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve to Evaporator core mounting bolts followed by taking out the auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve from the Evaporator core while you apply caps or tape to all Evaporator core lines and discard the sealing washers. When performing the installation remove the protective elements from Evaporator lines then wipe both sealing surfaces with a lint-free dry clean cloth. Strategically place new sealing washers onto Evaporator lines before you install the auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve to the Evaporator core with its mounting bolts tightened at 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). Separate the caps on the a/c lines then thoroughly clean all sealing surfaces before placing new sealing washers onto the lines until they rest in place. After connecting the a/c lines to the auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve install the retaining bolt of the line block fitting while tightening it to 11 n.m (97 lb in). Fasten the auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve line clamp onto the hvac module assembly using the line clamp screw then tighten it to 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). Resistors must be applied along the new auxiliary A/C Expansion Valve before system evacuation and recharge procedures and a halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) needs to test the fittings for leaks. After these steps, you can reinstall the left lower quarter trim panel.
