2002 Chevrolet Venture A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install the A/C Accumulator (ACDelco P/N 15-1697) on 2002 Chevrolet Venture?
A: The A/C accumulator (ACDelco P/N 15-1697) must have its installation started by recovering all A/C system refrigerants and elevating and stabilizing the vehicle through protective jacks. Prior to installation remove the radiator air baffle bolts as well as the baffle while also breaking the bolt which holds the evaporator inlet tube to the condenser before disconnecting the tube. Trim the evaporator inlet tube starting from the condenser block end to 110 mm (4.3 in) while preventing metal shavings from entering the tube during the cutting process. Move on to cut a second piece of evaporator inlet tube into an equal length of 60 mm (2.4 in) and eliminate all edge burrs. The O-rings used in the A/C accumulator should be eliminated before ferrule seating. You should put together one flare nut and one ferrule on the evaporator inlet tube by positioning the tapered end of the ferrule against the flare nut but you must fully install the A/C accumulator onto the inlet tube while pointing toward the evaporator space after setting the nut's torque at 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Transform the second evaporator inlet tube segment by fitting O-rings onto its ends followed by installing the accumulator properly rearward onto the ferrules. Fasten the evaporator inlet tube to the condenser by applying 16 N.m (12 lb ft) torque to the connecting bolt and place back the radiator air baffle and its bolts with a torque of 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The vehicle goes down afterward the technician recharges the A/C system and conducts leak testing of fittings with Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
