  • Q: How to Replace a Parking Brake Cable for Rear Drum Brakes on 2002 Buick Century?
    A: You should start by lifting the vehicle then finding suitable support before removing the wheel together with the tire to access the park brake cable. Lift the tension from the park brake cable at the equalizer then detach the front cable linkage from the rear cable which requires replacement. Disassemble the right rear cable by disconnecting its two cables from the clip and completely uninstall the left rear cable by removing its equalizer nut from the equalizer stud present on the cable. Mount the tool (J 37043) to detach the retainer which secures the cable to the support bracket and then remove the rear Brake Drum. It is necessary to first disconnect the park brake lever and secondly detach the rear park brake cable from the backing plate. The Parking Brake Cable release tool (J 37043) should be employed for this step before removing the cable entirely from the vehicle. The rear park brake cable installation requires inserting the backing plate cable through the backing plate then attaching it to the park brake lever. Put the retainer back to the support bracket before connecting the rear brake cable to the front cable. Both the right rear cable needs connection to its clip and the left rear cable requires installation of its equalizer stud into the equalizer nut belonging to the equalizer assembly. To finalize the installation process adjust the park brake then install the rear Brake Drum, and in the end fit the rear tire followed by wheel replacement and lower the vehicle.
