• Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2002 Buick Park Avenue?

  A: To fit the new upper Intake Manifold, first remove the fuel injector sight shield, disconnect the manifold vacuum source, take down the evaporative emission canister purge valve but retain the hoses to the air inlet grill. Afterwards, undo the right Spark Plug Wires from the ignition module and leave them, take off the MAP Sensor and fasteners for the engine wiring harness heat shield, and then take out the heat shield itself. Remove the mounting bolts of the Fuel Rail with the Fuel Rail and injectors followed by the Throttle Body support bracket and the bracket bolts. Unclamp the air cleaner intake duct, and unbolt both nuts holding the Throttle Body in place to the upper Intake Manifold, followed by the Throttle Body and gasket. Next, remove the upper Intake Manifold bolts and the upper Intake Manifold itself, cleaning and checking it as well as the lower Intake Manifold mating surface. For installation, put a new upper Intake Manifold gasket, position onto the lower Intake Manifold, and install the upper Intake Manifold bolts, tightening in sequence 1-10 to 10nm (89 inch lbs.). Next, place a new Throttle Body gasket on the upper Intake Manifold, mount the Throttle Body and nut it with nuts, tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Reinstall the air cleaner intake duct, throttle body support bracket and its bolts tightening 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Next, fit on the Fuel Rail assembly and the engine wiring harness heat shield and its fasteners, tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Lastly, reinstall the MAP Sensor, reconnect the right Spark Plug Wires to the ignition module, install evaporative emission canister purge valve, reconnect the manifold, vacuum source and finally reinstall the fuel injector sight shield.
