2002 Buick Rendezvous Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the evaporator core in the HVAC module assembly on 2002 Buick Rendezvous?
A: The process requires removal of the hvac module assembly together with air inlet housing screws and air inlet housing structure. The right side hvac module assembly mounting bracket requires removal of its screws and bracket while also extracting the upper retaining screw hidden under the bracket. Start by disconnecting the hvac module assembly from the dash panel sound barrier seal as well as the screws attached to the heater outlet duct and finally detach the duct. Start by unscrewing the Heater Core cover along with its components and the retaining screw of the Heater Core pipe before removing both items. The lower hvac module's retaining screw exists beneath the Heater Core and needs removal together with all lower retaining screws to divide the upper and lower hvac module sections. The installation begins with removing the Evaporator core from the upper hvac module case half before extracting the Evaporator temperature sensor and the txv mounting screws, which allow the txv to separate from the Evaporator core. Wash the a/c refrigerant line and component sealing areas with a lint-free cloth prior to installing while adding pag oil according to specification to the new Evaporator core. Position first the new sealing washers onto the Evaporator line and fasten the txv onto the Evaporator core with txv mounting screws which require tightening to 3.2 n.m (28 lb in). Place the Evaporator temperature sensor 3.5 cm (1.4 in) away from the module side and 5.0 cm (2.0 in) from the bottom corner of the core before alignment to the opening in the upper hvac case which avoids pinching wires. Feed the Evaporator core into the upper hvac module case half before installing the upper case to the lower case then fasten lower hvac module assembly retaining screws to 0.9 n.m (8 lb in) followed by the lower retaining screw fixed at the same torque. Install the Heater Core before tightening its pipe retaining screw to 0.9 n.m (8 lb in). Then secure the Heater Core cover along with its screws to 0.9 n.m (8 lb in). Begin by installing the heater outlet duct followed by its screws that need to be tightened to 0.9 n.m (8 lb in). After that install the hvac module assembly to the dash panel sound barrier seal and the upper retaining screw at 0.9 n.m (8 lb in). The installation process of the hvac module assembly concludes when the right side bracket receives screws tightened at 1.8 n.m (16 lb in) followed by attaching the air inlet housing to the hvac module using retaining screws that must be torqued at 0.9 n.m (8 lb in).
