How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier?

To remove the pnp switch, make sure first you disconnect the shift linkage and the electrical connector. Then, pull out the park/neutral position switch mounting bolts and remove these park/neutral position switch assembly also. When installing the old switch you have to set the shift shaft to n (Neutral) and match the flats of shift shaft with the switch. Mount the park/neutral position switch mounting bolts and torque to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). It is very important to make sure that the engine will start only if the p (Park) or n (Neutral) position is achieved. Readjust the switch if incase the engine starts in a different position. Lastly, turn the Ignition Switch on.
