2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the shock absorber on 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: The first step of Shock Absorber replacement requires moving the rear compartment carpet to get to the Shock Absorber upper mounting nut and then removing this nut. After raising the vehicle using a hoist users must remove both wheel and tire. Using a jackstand beneath the rear axle will enable you to keep tension on the Shock Absorber while you unscrew the Shock Absorber upper mounting bolts . After lowering the jackstand the technician should remove the Shock Absorber lower mounting bolt before removing the Shock Absorber from the vehicle. Installation begins through reinstallation of the Shock Absorber into the vehicle. The Shock Absorber lower mounting bolt requires a torque setting of 70 nm while installation. After raising the rear axle with a jackstand position the Shock Absorber under the upper mounting bolt placement then bolt and torque to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle until the Shock Absorber upper mounting nut reaches the installation position so you can tighten it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Once both steps are finished you should reinstall the tire and wheel followed by replacing the rear compartment carpet to its normal position.
