2002 Chevrolet Express 2500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2002 Chevrolet Express 2500?
A: The first step to handle Camshaft Position Sensor maintenance requires you to remove the engine cover before disconnecting Spark Plug Wires together with the ignition coil wire from the Distributor. Route the Distributor camshaft position (CMP) sensor harness connector to its position by following cmp sensor harness connector removal from the Distributor. Then remove the top Distributor Cap screws and top Distributor Cap. The first step requires removal of rotor screws and rotor followed by positioning of the reluctor wheel square slot relative to the cmp sensor. Afterward, remove two screws that secure the cmp sensor before extracting it from the Distributor. The cmp sensor as well as rotor screws and Distributor Cap require new hardware which must receive thread locking compound before installation. Mount the cmp sensor into the reluctor wheel opening while applying new screws that should be tightened to 2.2 n.m (20 lb in). Place the rotor onto the reluctor wheel and use new rotor screws before tightening them to 2 n.m (18 lb in). Affix the Distributor Cap using new screws which should be tightened at 2.4 n.m (21 lb in). The cmp sensor needs its harness connector to be connected followed by the recovery of Spark Plug Wires and ignition coil wire before reinstalling the engine cover.
