2002 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the A/C Accumulator using the Halogen Leak Detector on 2002 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Use the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to position acdelco p/n-1760 A/C Accumulator on the a/c Evaporator tube (liquid line) between condenser and Evaporator and prevent any need to flush the a/c system. The first step involves recovering refrigerant before you raise and support the vehicle. Fender liner removal from the right front allows condenser and Evaporator line end securing with caps and tape to block any contamination. Use rotating motion to remove the Evaporator line bolt at the condenser fitting before discarding the orifice tube stored inside the acdelco p/n-1760. Using a line cutter cut the liquid line at the first marked spot which sits 50 mm (2 in) beyond the first hanger point at intervals of 38 mm (1 1/2 in). Remove all burrs from the cut area. The Evaporator line should be connected to the condenser fitting while the Evaporator hose bolt is installed before tightening it to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Take the A/C Accumulator's nuts, ferrules and o-rings from it but refrain from applying the o-rings at this time. Install the ferrules into the liquid line halves by putting the small end toward the nut while pushing the nuts. The A/C Accumulator needs the liquid line to enter its bottommost part before securing the nuts tightly. Install two o-rings which received refrigerant oil lubrication onto the liquid line after disassembly of the A/C Accumulator from this line. The liquid line should be positioned at the bottom of the A/C Accumulator before tightening its nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). The process ends with evacuation while charging the refrigeration system followed by halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) testing of fittings and right front fender liner reinstallation prior to lowering the vehicle.
