How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2002 Chevrolet Malibu?

Turn off ignition power before starting to change the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor by draining coolant below ECT sensor height. Among the tasks are to disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connection followed by a careful removal of the original sensor. During installation of the new ECT sensor use only components with matching part numbers designed for the specific application. The ECT sensor needs GM P/N 9985253 sealer or equivalent before installation. Tighten it to 20 N.m (15 lb ft) while handling it carefully. Connect the sensor's electrical connector and fill the cooling system with liquid. The sensor handling requires caution to prevent fuel control system performance issues and implement thread locking compounds as well as lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, and sealants following specified procedures to maintain component torque.
