Place the drain pan underneath the engine oil Drain Plug before pulling out the pan's Drain Plug. The Drain Plug requires cleaning followed by an assessment to determine whether repair or replacement is needed before inspecting the Oil Pan sealing surface. Replace the Oil Pan if needed. After cleaning the engine block sealing area, check for any necessary replacement or repair of both the filter and sealing surface before moving on to installation. After placing clean oil on the replacement Oil Filter gasket, install the new filter while applying 3/4 to 1 full turn of torque following surface contact.
