2002 Chevrolet Prizm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Replace the crankshaft rear oil seal by first disconnect the negative Battery Cable and remove the transaxle assembly. With manual transmission, pull out the clutch and Pressure Plate and remove the Flywheel off the crankshaft. To avoid damaging the crankshaft, gently wrap the tip of the screw driver with tape and then use it to pry out the crankshaft rear oil seal. For installation, multi-purpose grease should be applied on the lip of the new crankshaft rear oil seal and it should be tapped in until the surface is flush with the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer edge. Lightly tap the crankshaft rear oil seal in with a hammer and then install the Flywheel, then the clutch and Pressure Plate if one is used and finally the transaxle assembly. After the bolts are removed, connect the negative Battery Cable and tighten the bolt down to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.).
