2002 Chevrolet Prizm Hood Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Hood Cable on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: You must begin by elevating and sustaining the hood before you delete the hood secondary catch and primary latch. The Hood Cable needs to be detached from the knee bolster trim through gentle prying motion with a taped flat bladed screwdriver. Then remove the cables from their handle position. You must first lift and support the vehicle before removing its six bolts and eight plastic retainers and left front wheelhouse panel liner. Secure a piece of mechanic's wire to both ends of the Hood Cable while lowering the vehicle. First disconnect the cable from its grommet and vehicle inside before unclipping the input air temperature sensor wiring harness from the Hood Latch support bracket. Finally remove the Hood Cable. Place the mechanic's wire alongside both ends of the cable for easier installation. During installation insert the new Hood Cable through the vehicle while simultaneously connecting mechanic's wire to it. First reattach the new Hood Cable to the Hood Cable handle. Afterwards install the handle to the knee bolster trim. Position the cable before removing the mechanic's wire once more to join the Hood Cable to both the hood secondary catch and primary latch. Replace the hood secondary catch in addition to the primary latch before linking the input air temperature sensor wiring harness to the Hood Latch support bracket. With a vehicle lift support stemming from the body, install the left front wheelhouse panel liner by securing it through 6 bolts and 8 plastic retainers and torque the bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Lower the vehicle around the time you secure the hood in place.
