2002 Chevrolet Prizm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a radiator on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The replacement process starts with draining cooling system fluids while properly supporting the vehicle during a hoist. Placing a drip pan under automatic transmission vehicles will catch fluid in case of any leakages before you proceed to remove their right and left engine splash shields. Remove transmission fluid cooler hoses from the Radiator by detaching their hose clamps after disconnecting the lower Radiator outlet hose by unclamping it. The lower vehicle requires lowering and you should remove both upper Radiator bracket bolts before moving on to the four a/c condenser bracket bolts when present. Both electrical connectors of the cooling fan need to be disconnected while you loosen the clamp on the upper Radiator inlet hose before removing the hose. Separate the Radiator overflow hose at its clamp and disconnect it from the Radiator filler neck before removing the Radiator assembly with fan cooling unit from your vehicle along with its necessary components for use on the new Radiator. To complete the installation position the Radiator alongside the cooling fan assembly into the automobile then tighten the upper bolts to 13 nm (9 ft. Lbs.) and fasten the a/c condenser bracket bolts to the Radiator at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). You should connect the overflow hose to the Radiator filler neck by applying it over the flares before tightening it with a hose clamp. Position the Radiator inlet hose over the Radiator flares before securing it with a clamp then connect the cooling fan electrical wires. Place the transmission fluid cooler hoses on the Radiator while fastening them with hose clamps. The Radiator outlet hose should be connected to the Radiator with clamp placement over the flares to secure it before moving onto the right and left engine splash shield installation. Add approved coolant to the Radiator until the filler neck base while watching for overheating during engine operation with the Radiator cap removed. Proceed to start the engine until the coolant heats up to operating temperature while observing both Radiator hoses warmth and coolant movement followed by adding coolant to reach the filler neck. Check the Radiator cap installation and examine the Radiator and Coolant Reservoir before investigating any leaking connections on the pipes and hoses. Secure loose connections and then replace the Radiator cap before verifying transmission fluid amounts for automatic transmission systems.
