2002 Chevrolet Venture Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1 on 2002 Chevrolet Venture?
A: To replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1, remove using the J 39194-B Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194-B) not separating the pigtail from the HO2S or the oxygen sensor (O2S) as this will require sensor functionality. Make sure the oxygen sensor is handled carefully as to prevent any drops, and the in-line electrical connector along with louvered end should be kept free of grease, dirt or contaminants, with the help of cleaning solvents being completely avoided. In case the pig tail wiring, connector, or terminal becomes deranged replace the Oxygen Sensor instead of repairing it because that may be blocking the air reference and it may further hamper the sensor performance. Do not immerse the sensor or vehicle harness connectors with contact cleaner; ensure the sensor pigtail and harness wires are not exposed and will not kink, which may result in the performance of the electronic components. Do not disconnect the ground plug of the oxygen sensor if applicable because it may be vital for the right sensor operation. Preserve the integrity of the peripheral seal on the vehicle harness connectors from water; a well-known product to use, in case repair is needed, is Packard's Crimp and Splice Seals Terminal Repair Kit, thus no soldering. Take care when replacing the heated oxygen sensor: there should be at least 48°C (120°F) in the engine to avoid the damage of the threads. Start by turning off the vehicle, lifting the vehicle, and disconnecting the sensor electrical connector. Gradually retract the heated oxygen sensor with the J 39194-B. In the case of installation, apply anti-seize compound GM P/N 5613695 (5613695) on the threads of the heated oxygen sensor, before reinstallation. Tighten the HO2S 1 (pre-catalytic converter) to 41 N.m (30 lb ft), reactivate the sensor electrical connector, and lower vehicle.
