- Q: How to replace the auxiliary evaporator core on 2002 GMC Savana 3500?A: The first step for replacing the auxiliary evaporator core requires recovery of refrigerant from the A/C system followed by draining coolant. Start by elevating the vehicle then remove the heater and A/C line cover that resides under the auxiliary evaporator module followed by heater lines. One retaining nut has to be removed to separate the auxiliary evaporator underbody rear tube assembly from its core position. Then secure the auxiliary evaporator module after taking out the two retaining nuts which are located beneath the vehicle. First detach the left body side rear trim panel together with both parts of the air distribution duct from the vehicle. Remove two bolts inside the vehicle while disconnecting electrical connectors that hold the case. Users must first remove the auxiliary evaporator module assembly before using tools to detach the case screws for separating the case into two halves. Inspect the gaskets together with seals on the auxiliary HVAC module after removing its evaporator core and core seal. Replace damaged elements if necessary. Place the evaporator core inside the auxiliary HVAC module before installing the evaporator core seal to complete the case reassembly. Place the auxiliary evaporator module assembly back inside the vehicle while fastening it with the two bolts located within the vehicle compartment. Begin by connecting the electrical connectors. After that install the air distribution duct upper and lower components and finally attach the left body side rear trim panel. After raising the vehicle install the two auxiliary evaporator module underneath nuts using a 10 N.m torque setting followed by applying 28 N.m torque to the retaining nut of the underbody rear tube assembly. The procedure consists of heater lines installation and heater and A/C line cover attachment followed by vehicle lowering and engine coolant addition then A/C system evacuation and recharging before performing a Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) check on the components fittings.
