2002 GMC Savana 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Fuel Level Sensor assembly on 2002 GMC Savana 3500?
A: The first step to replace the Fuel Level Sensor requires users to disconnect the negative Battery Cable followed by a fuel pressure relief procedure before draining the Fuel Tank through the Fuel Tank draining procedure. The draining of all fuel from the tank must happen through the Fuel Tank draining procedure before removing the Fuel Tank and level sensor. While disassembling the fuel system determine the exact position of the pump strainer before using one hand to support the pump while using the other hand to remove the strainer from the pump. Pull the strainer from the pump while rotating in one direction after inspection. Then discard this component. Determine whether contaminants exist in the Fuel Pump Strainer where you must replace it immediately but remember to cleanse the Fuel Tank beforehand. The Fuel Pump inlet needs inspection for any presence of dirt and debris so replace the pump if such items are detected. Installing the level sensor requires no strainer folding or twisting as this could cause fuel flow obstruction. Support the pump and position the new pump strainer as noted during disassembly before pushing the outer ferrule edge until complete seat formation. The installation process starts by putting a new seal followed by level sensor and lock ring placement with proper alignment of the lock ring holes to the tank tabs. Lock the cam lock assembly clockwise before putting back the Fuel Tank while adding the fuel conserved from the tank. Reconnect the negative Battery Cable then use a process of turning on the ignition for 2 seconds followed by 10 seconds of turning off the ignition before checking for fuel leaks by turning on the ignition once more.
