2001 GMC Savana 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Fuel Level Sensor assembly on 2001 GMC Savana 3500?
A: The first step to change the Fuel Level Sensor involves disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and carrying out the fuel pressure relief procedure to remove pressure from the system. The Fuel Tank draining procedure determines the removal process for the Fuel Tank and level sensor. When disassembling the Fuel Pump always remember where the strainer is located on the pump then stabilize it with one hand while moving the other to grip the strainer. Next pull the strainer off in one direction before discarding it. The strainer requires rotation before being gently removed from the pump unit until it releases from its position. Dispose of the strainer after proper examination. The inspection of the Fuel Pump strainer should lead to its replacement in cases of contamination while simultaneous cleaning of the Fuel Tank should take place. Attention must be paid to dirt and debris at the Fuel Pump inlet and a replacement should be performed when contamination is detected. Slipping or bending the strainer during assembly should be avoided to stop fuel from restricting movement. Tap the ferrule's outer side fully into place after which position the new strainer according to the original position. To install the components you must position new items of seal level sensor and lock ring with their alignment holes targeting the tank tabs. Mount the cam lock assembly with correct clockwise rotation to achieve locking and afterward position the Fuel Tank while returning the extracted fuel to its tank. Use the negative Battery Cable to inspect fuel leakages through the following sequence: turn on the ignition for two seconds then turn off the ignition for ten seconds before turning on again for leak detection.
