Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2002 GMC Savana 3500?
A: Disengage the battery negative lead and purge the engine coolant. Once done, remove the air cleaner intake duct, engine cover, coolant reservoir, upper Radiator Hose, inlet heater hose, outlet heater hose, and coolant by-pass hose. Remove the scpi injector electrical connection, manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, evap canister purge solenoid valve, idle air control (IAC) motor, throttle position (TP) sensor, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, and engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. If provided, take away the air bypass hose assembly and join the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose using a twisting motion. Then, take out the Distributor, fuel pipes from the back of the engine, accelerator control cable and cruise control cables from throttle shaft, accelerator control cable bracket from the Throttle Body and lower Intake Manifold, ignition coil and icm bracket and egr pipe from Intake Manifold. It worth mentioning that there is no need for discharging the a/c refrigerant. If equipped, then take the power steering pulley and the mounting bracket off and remove the left and right side valve rocker arm covers after taking off the A/C Compressor (Air conditioning A/C) compressor (Air conditioning A/C) and stack it aside. Lastly, pull off the lower Intake Manifold and clean all the sealing surfaces. For installation, lay in the lower intake into the engine accompanied by putting the left and right side valve rocker arm covers, power steering pump mounting bracket, and A/C Compressor if equipped. Attach the egr pipe to the bracket and the front of the Intake Manifold, as well as the Ignition Coil and icm bracket. With it, connect the air bypass hose assembly and the accelerator control cable bracket to the Throttle Body and lower Intake Manifold, the accelerator control cable and cruise control cable to the throttle shaft. Replace the fuel pipes, distributor, and pcv tube at the Intake Manifold and twist them to lock them into place. Iac motor, tp sensor, egr valve, and ect sensor. If fitted, also install the vacuum brake booster hose and reconnect the scpi injector electrical connector, map sensor, evap canister purge solenoid valve and iac motor, tp sensor, egr valve, and ect sensor. Install the air bypass hose assembly and Brake Booster Vacuum Hose if applicable, upper Radiator Hose, inlet heater hose, outlet heater hose, coilant bypass hose, coolant reservoir, engine cover, and air cleaner assembly. Add coolant to the engine and reshook the battery negative cable.
