2003 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module on 2003 Buick Park Avenue?
A: It is necessary to confirm that the replacement powertrain control module (PCM) matches the correct specifications before the replacement process. The first step to check a faulty pcm is to disconnect the negative Battery Cable before removing the screws from the air cleaner top cover which allows you to remove the cover. Remove the pcm from the air cleaner housing assembly by disconnecting all harness connectors at the pcm. You should connect the pcm connectors while applying torque to 8 n.m (71 lb in) while completing the installation process. Place the new pcm inside the air cleaner housing assembly before reinstallation of the top air cleaner and returning the negative Battery Cable. A replacement pcm requires that air pump operations get disabled until the vehicle reaches 16.9 km (10 miles) and needs a service programming system (SPS) procedure for programming before it can function correctly. Finger contact with circuit board pins or solder points should be avoided to stop esd damage while you should disconnect power before handling pcm connectors or power connections. The rewrite of the eeprom must be performed or the eeprom must be functional to avoid triggering diagnostic trouble code (DTC) p0602.
