2004 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module on 2004 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Hazardous replacement of the powertrain control module (PCM) begins by verifying the suitability of the new pcm part. A faulty pcm requires users to disconnect the negative Battery Cable followed by screw removal from the air cleaner top cover. Afterward users should remove the top cover before connector disconnection from the pcm and subsequent removal of the pcm from the air cleaner housing assembly. First detach the pcm harness connectors followed by removing the pcm from its position at the air cleaner housing assembly. After linking all connectors correctly the service pcm demands 8 n.m (71 lb in) torque following which its placement should proceed into the air cleaner housing assembly before reinstalling the air cleaner top cover. To complete the procedure you should reconnect the negative Battery Cable. When installing the new pcm users must program it with the sps system because the pcm prevents air pump operation until it accumulates 16.9 km (10 miles) of mileage. You should avoid all contacts with the connector pins and components on the circuit board because electrostatic discharge (ESD) can harm them. Make sure the ignition is off during pcm connector and power connection work to protect the internal components from damage.
