  • Q: How to service and repair the coolant reservoir and replace the surge tank (LHD M 35) on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
    A: In order to service and repair the Coolant Reservoir and facilitate the replacement of the surge tank (LHD M 35), it will first be necessary to drain the coolant, after which the upper surge tank bolt and detach the surge tank inlet hose. Now, unscrew the clutch master cylinder reservoir bolts and move reservoir to the side. No need to disconnect the brake lines, take the master cylinder from the Brake Booster off. Loosen and slide hurst hose clamp pliers (J 38185) off on the surge tank outlet hose and disconnect, outlet hose. Loosen the surge tank bolt located at the bottom of the surge tank for the lower side and the surge tank bolt at the air inlet grille and lift the air inlet grille panel partially out of the way remove the surge tank. Unplug the low coolant sensor and remove the surge tank. For installation, connect the low coolant sensor electrical connector and install the surge tank, ensuring the surge tank tab is placed behind the air inlet grille screen before placing the grille back. Mount the surge tank nut and tighten it to 9nm (80inch lbs), connect the surge tank outlet hose use the hose clamp plircers (J 38185) to reposition the outlet hose clamp. Connect the surge tank inlet hose and bolt and tighten to 9nm (80 inch lbs.). Install the bolt on the surge tank, tighten it to 9 nm (80 inch lbs), then later reposition the clutch master cylinder reservoir then install it to its holder then tighten the clutch master cylinder reservoir bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs). Lastly, hook the master cylinder to the vacuum booster and fill the cooling system.
