2003 Chevrolet Corvette A/C Hose Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace an A/C Hose in an HVAC System on 2003 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step to replace the accumulator tube requires the recovery of refrigerant from the a/c system. First remove the battery alongside its heat shield after which you should pull out the Intake Manifold. You must first remove the nut which connects the heater pipe bracket to the dash cowl with the intention of positioning the bracket as needed to access the refrigerant lines. You should remove the bolt that fastens the front Evaporator tube to the rear Evaporator tube then disconnect the tubes while using caps or tape to seal the open a/c components to stop contamination. Follow regulation guidelines for disposing of the o-ring then cap or tape the opened areas of the front and rear Evaporator tubes. The compressor hose must be detached from the accumulator using a bolt removal tool then the hose must be disconnected to reach the accumulator hose while discarding the o-ring and using caps or tape to cover exposed component sections. First reposition the compressor hose end before using a back up wrench on the accumulator fitting to disconnect the accumulator hose fitting from the accumulator through removal of the o-ring with disposal of the o-ring. Afterward, cap or tape all open components. Turn the bolt holding the accumulator hose to the Evaporator before removing the hose while disposing of the o-ring. Propagate the accumulator hose apart from the rear Evaporator tube while discarding the o-ring then apply a cap or tape to secure open components. Before installing the accumulator hose and rear Evaporator tube and Evaporator you must remove their covering caps and tape and then install a fresh o-ring to the accumulator hose. Connect the hose to the Evaporator while inserting the rear Evaporator tube. Then install and tighten the bolt which retains the accumulator hose to the Evaporator to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Install a new o-ring to the accumulator hose and attach it to the accumulator by applying 41 n.m (30 lb ft) torque using a back up wrench on the accumulator fitting. Install the bolt that retains the compressor hose to the accumulator, while tightening it to 20 n.m torque value (15 lb ft). Install new o-rings to each Evaporator tube while connecting them with the retaining bolt which should be tightened up to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Finish the installation by attaching the heater pipe bracket onto the cowl stud and adjusting its nut up to 10 n.m before reinstalling the Intake Manifold as well as the battery heat shield and battery afterward doing the a/c system evacuation and recharging. Perform a leak test through the fittings by applying the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
