2003 Chevrolet Malibu Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Begin the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 replacement operation by ensuring the ignition is OFF while raising the vehicle. Use the Oxygen Sensor Socket (J 39194-B) to detach the sensor electric connection before carefully backing out the heated oxygen sensor. Special anti-seize compound made from graphite suspended in fluid and glass beads needs to be put on heated oxygen sensor threads before mounting. The heated oxygen sensor contains graphite suspension in fluid and glass beads which will burn off during operation yet leave behind the glass beads for future ease of extraction. When reinstalling a sensor that was previously removed apply anti-seize compound to the threads during the process. To install the heated oxygen sensor or catalyst monitor thread area should receive anti-seize compound application such as P/N 5613695 or an equivalent before using the Oxygen Sensor Socket tool (J 39194-B) for proper installation at 42 N.m (31 lb ft). Last, restore the electrical connector connection to the sensor before lowering the vehicle.
