2003 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1 on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Before starting heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1 replacement work begin by disconnecting the electrical connector. When the engine temperature falls below 48°c (120°F) the heated Oxygen Sensor can be challenging to remove by hand. Use the Oxygen Sensor socket (J 39194-B) following these steps to prevent damaging Exhaust Manifold or Exhaust Pipe threads. Apply anti-seize compound (P/N 5613695 or similar) to heated Oxygen Sensor/catalyst monitor threads before installation because specialized anti-seize with graphite-suspension fits fluid and glass beads works best. The compound is already present on new service sensors. Prior to reinstalling removed sensors apply anti-seize compound to their threads. The pre-catalytic converter ho2s should be installed while its torque set to 31 lb ft (1 to 42 N.m) then reconnect its electrical connector.
