2004 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) located post-catalyst on 2004 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Start by raising the vehicle and establishing support before you begin to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) which sits behind the catalyst. To start replacement of the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) you need to see where the electrical harness travels and separate the HO2S electrical connector that's found in the engine bay. Make use of the Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194) to remove the HO2S while exercising care. Pull the HO2S electrical harness below the underbody clearance. Whenever reinstalling the previous HO2S you should apply anti-seize compound GM P/N 12377953 or an equivalent product to the threads. Connect the HO2S to its pipe and apply the Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194) to complete HO2S tightening at a torque of 41 N.m (30 lb ft). Reposition the HO2S electrical harness according to its original placement points then attach the HO2S electrical connector. Finally, lower the vehicle.
