2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: You need to elevate the vehicle first and secure it properly before removing the tire and wheel assembly from the rear. Clear up all debris from brake hoses while you prepare the brake pipe fitting end with a rubber plug to block fluid loss and contamination. The brake pipe fitting disconnects from the brake hose using a backing wrench on the hose fitting while you place a cap or plug on the brake pipe fitting's end. Avoid bending the brake pipe or bracket during this process. Pull the retaining clip loose from the bracket holding the hose before detaching the hose from the bracket. Remove the brake hose to caliper bolt from the brake caliper before taking the brake hose off its mounting point on the caliper. Dispose of the two copper brake hose gaskets that might have stuck to either end of the caliper or the hose. To install the brake hose system use new copper brake hose gaskets then place them on together with brake hose bolt onto the brake hose . Fit the brake hose to caliper bolt onto the brake caliper and torque it to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). After placing vehicle weight on the suspension system, install the brake hose into the bracket while checking for kinks and using the hose paint stripe to line up the fitting with the bracket notch. The hose fitting attaches to the bracket's retainer before you remove the rubber cap or plug from the end of the exposed brake pipe fitting. Use a back up wrench to connect the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose while avoiding bracket and pipe deformation and torque the brake pipe fitting to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the rear tire and wheel assembly while maintaining hose clearance from all suspension components. Check the brake system operation after installation before removing the hose because any contact with suspension parts deserves correction. The vehicle needs final hydraulic brake system bleeding before lowering itself.
