  • Q: How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
    A: Primary to replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder is disconnections of the negative cable of the battery and removing the instrument panel (I/P) cluster trim plate. Enter the key and pull the Ignition Lock Cylinder to the on/run position. Hold the Ignition Lock Cylinder detent depressed and in position through the i/p opening to the right of the Ignition Switch with a small curved tool, or an l-shaped hex wrench. Knob off with the Ignition Switch if necessary to increase access to it. Pull it off with the use of the key as an aid and remove the key from the lock cylinder. Then remove the lock cylinder from the switch. If the cylinder is not spinning or frozen, proceed with a procedure for changing an Ignition Switch. If coding of the Ignition Lock Cylinder is needed, code as necessary. Turn the key and put the lock cylinder on on/run, and align the lock cylinder to the Ignition Switch and press it firmly to ensure alignment with the white colored Ignition Switch rotor if the key was rotated a little during the removal process. Turn the key to the off position and take it out, then install i/p cluster trim plate, and reconnect the negative Battery Cable. In case a new lock cylinder is installed, conduct bcm theft deterrent relearn procedure.
