• Q: How to replace the Hood Cable on 2003 Chevrolet SSR?

  A: Start your Hood Cable replacement by first removing the left front door sill panel and then moving to the left closeout/insulator panel and upper grille applique. The first step involves removing both the engine splash shield and the Hood Latch. Suspend the Hood Cable from the Hood Latch assembly and measure mechanics wire to the outer cable end so you can reinstall it afterward. After removing the cable retainer from the hood hold open rod bracket, feed the cable outside the headlamp panel and Radiator and over the battery tray before inserting the cable grommet through the bulkhead into the vehicle compartment. First detach the hood release handle from the left cowl trim panel after removing the nut at its mounting point. Pull the cable through the bulkhead until it emerges from behind the sound insulation. Remove the mechanics wire from the cable while it remains at its position to aid installation. Extract the cable from its position in the vehicle body. During installation guide the new cable through the bulkhead using the attached mechanics wire then lead it under the sound insulation before passing the exterior section of cable through the bulkhead. Connect the cable to the release handle then install the cable grommet to the bulkhead. Reposition the release handle to the left side cowl panel then fasten it using a nut tightened to 7 n.m (62 lb in). Follow previous cable routing directions by passing the wire over the battery tray and between the headlamp panel assembly and Radiator before locking it to wheelhouse retainers and hood hold open rod bracket retainers.
