2003 Chevrolet Tracker Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Overhaul the Brake Master Cylinder (2.0L Non-ABS, 2.51- Non-ABS) on 2003 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: You must wear protective safety glasses while working on the master cylinder overhaul (2.0L Non-ABS, 2.51- Non-ABS). Always remember to watch out for the hazards associated with brake fluid. First detach the master cylinder from its booster position before removing the reservoir part from the master cylinder. Start the procedure by removing the Piston stopper snap ring and Piston stopper followed by the cylinder cup and plate. Extricate the primary Piston assembly with o-ring from the master cylinder while maintaining its structural integrity and then remove the secondary Piston stopper bolt and its washer. Placing fingers in front of the Piston should be avoided during compressed air applications because they could result in critical injuries. Apply compressed air through the stopper bolt hole to extract the secondary Piston assembly and after that remove the Piston cup followed by the secondary Piston pressure cup then the spring. Test all elements for damage or wear before deciding to replace them immediately while avoiding the use of reused Piston cups. Wash the parts with brake fluid and check the master cylinder bore for corrosion or scoring before replacing a damaged unit. Drain the cylinder using fresh brake fluid before tapping out remaining fluid without touching it with any cloth. Begin master cylinder assembly with a spring followed by inserting the new Piston cup after which both the secondary Piston assembly and new secondary Piston pressure cup should be added. Use the o-ring to install the primary Piston before fixing the plate with its new cylinder cup. Press down the Piston stopper while it is installed to place the master cylinder Piston stopper snap ring correctly. After fully inserting the pistons into the cylinder position the Piston stopper bolt at 10 nm torque (88.5 inch lbs. Torque value). Before reinstalling the reservoir you should first attach the master cylinder to the brake booster. Then apply a thin brake fluid coat to the grommets before installing them to the master cylinder .
