2003 Chevrolet Tracker Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right rear parking brake cable on 2003 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: The replacement of the right rear park brake cable begins with verifying that the park brake lever is in an open position. You need to remove four screws numbered 1,3,4,6 together with two clips designated 2,5 to elevate the console. The right rear park brake cable replacement requires users to detach power neutral switch connectors for automatic transmissions together with auxiliary power outlet connectors for vehicles with such features. Disengage the park brake switch connector then unlock the park brake cable by removing the lock nut. First detach the right park brake cable from the equalizer before raising and supporting the vehicle. The procedure begins with removal of the right rear tire along with wheel assembly and then right Brake Drum extraction. You can free the shoe hold down springs from their retaining pins before removing them. The installation order begins with the removal of the upper return spring followed by the strut and adjuster with its adjuster lever and adjuster spring and strut spring and pawl lever. You then remove the lower return spring. The park brake shoe lever should have its park brake cable detached from its location but remember to note the color ring on the cable for wire identification purposes. Start by pushing the park brake cable stopper ring to extract the cable out from the backing plate and proceed to unfasten the three park brake retainer bolts plus three park brake retainers to remove the park brake cable with grommet from the vehicle. Install the park brake cable along with the grommet into the vehicle while complying with all fastener instructions. The installation involves setting the new park brake cable with the same color ring as previously installed followed by retaining the 3 park brake retainer bolts with 10 nm (88.5 inch lbs.) torque value. Fit the brake cable stopper ring together with the park brake cable onto the backing plate before proceeding to attach the park brake cable spring and nipple end to the park brake shoe lever. Fitting the lower return spring completes the installation of all original components like the upper return spring along with the strut, adjuster , adjuster lever, adjuster spring , strut spring , and pawl lever . Fasten the shoe hold down springs to the vehicle by using shoe hold down pins. Lower the vehicle and connect the right Brake Drum together with its right rear tire and wheel assembly. Before adding the equalizer to the park brake cable the technician must ensure the equalizer aligns at least at 15 degree perpendicularly to the lever cable then proceed with pin installation. Lock the park brake cable with the new nut then restore the park brake switch connector. Connect the auxiliary power outlet connector if needed and then link the power neutral switch connector when you have automatic transmission before installing the console over the shift knob. When finished complete the installation by attaching the console with both 4 screws (1,3,4,6) and 2 clips (2,5).
