How to replace the rear axle shaft on 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Begin by uninstalling the rear axle housing gasket and cover followed by disassembling the pinion shaft locking bolt. To handle axles that lack Differential locks remove their pinion shaft. Individuals with locking differentials need to draw the pinion shaft partially from its housing then rotate the case until it contacts the housing. Use a screwdriver to rotate the c-lock until it faces the thrust block position. Push the Axle Shaft flange towards the Differential before removing the c-lock from the button end but be sure to keep the shaft from rotating to prevent gear misalignment. You should slide the new Axle Shaft straight into the rear axle housing until it locks its splines with the Differential side gear. In models lacking a locking Differential install the c-lock on the shaft button of the axle. The c-lock alignment for axes with locking differentials requires partial shaft pinion withdrawal and the lock's ends positioned at the thrust block's surface. When ready, gently push the shaft flange toward the outside to let the c-lock find its spot in the Differential gear before bringing the pinion shaft hole to the Differential case hole. Insert the new pinion shaft locking bolt into position while torquing it to 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Start by placing the rear axle housing cover and gasket back into position then reinstall the brake caliper and tire and wheel assembly. As the last step complete the rear axle lubrication before lowering the vehicle down.
