2003 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the auxiliary evaporator core on 2003 GMC Safari?
A: The replacement process for the auxiliary evaporator core should begin with refrigerant recovery before removing left body side rear trim panel followed by air outlet duct assembly. Detach the electrical connectors while raising and supporting the vehicle. Use the retaining nut to break the auxiliary evaporator rear tube assembly connection to the core then lower the vehicle. The first step requires you to remove the bolts which keep the case attached to the vehicle until you can pull out the auxiliary evaporator module assembly. Screw the case open then divide the halves of the unit before removing the evaporator core seal and extracting the core from inside the case. Prepare replacement gaskets and seals before examining them for damage. The evaporator core installation process starts with placing the core inside the case followed by inserting the evaporator core seal then reattaching the case halves. The vehicle must receive the auxiliary evaporator module assembly through bolt attachment procedures which require tightness of 10 N.m (86 lb in). After lifting the vehicle once more raise it in the air position then install fresh seal washers and combine the auxiliary evaporator underbody rear tube assembly with the core through the retaining nut while tightening it at 10 N.m (86 lb in). After disconnecting the electrical connectors you should lower the vehicle before reinstalling both the air outlet duct assembly and the left body side rear trim panel. The process concludes with evacuating and recharging the system followed by conducting a leak test of component fittings through Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
