2004 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2004 Buick LeSabre?
A: Safety comes first before brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) replacement because attempting to fix this brake pressure modulator valve assembly leads to complete replacement. Turn off the ignition and elevate the vehicle before starting the process. First remove the left front wheel and left front wheelhouse extension while clearing an area around the electronic brake control module (EBCM)/bpmv to keep it free from loose debris that could cause contamination. Wash away all debris from the ebcm/bpmv area before proceeding to unlock the ebcm connector tab and safely extract the ebcm connector position assurance from the ebcm electrical connector. The vehicle's exterior must be protected against brake fluid spills and brake pipes should not experience extreme bending. The vehicle's exterior must be safeguarded from brake fluid contamination while all brake pipes need to maintain proper bend limits. Note the positions of all brake pipes for future bpmv installation. The process begins by removing both master cylinder brake pipes and all 4 wheel brake pipes from the bpmv then cleaning any brake fluid spillage before removing the 2 bpmv bracket nuts. Remove the ebcm/bpmv assembly from its bpmv bracket position while simultaneously disconnecting the bpmv electrical connector from the ebcm unit. Unscrew and wipe down the 6 ebcm to bpmv screws while recording that the ebcm requires replacement if it shows signs of failure. Remove the ebcm by separating it from the bpmv structure. The installation process starts by cleaning the bpmv surface then mounting the ebcm onto the bpmv using the 6 screws which need to be tightened at 3.2 n.m (28 lb in). Mount the ebcm/bpmv assembly to the bpmv bracket after installing all 3 rubber isolators on the bpmv with 2 nuts tightened to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The brake pipes must receive proper mounting retention and connection to the bpmv to maintain wheel mobility. All shipping plugs need to be taken off before installing a new bpmv. Fitting both the 4 wheel brake pipes and the 2 master cylinder brake pipes requires torque settings at 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Secure the ebcm electrical connector by mounting the ebcm connector position assurance device which tabs the connector into place. Put the left front wheelhouse extension back into position along with the left front wheel before lowering the vehicle. The technician should fill the hydraulic brake system before bleeding it through auto bleed while running the abs diagnostic system check.
