2005 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2005 Buick LeSabre?
A: The process starts by turning OFF vehicle ignition followed by elevating the vehicle body before wheel and wheelhouse extension removal. After removing the left front wheel and wheelhouse extension you must clean all dirt from near the ABS Control Module area to avoid antilock brake system (ABS) contamination through proper wheelhouse extension cleaning is critical. Pull the ABS Control Module connector tab upward until it unlocks before pulling off its position assurance from the ABS Control Module electrical connector. The equipment requires protective measures when users disconnect or connect the wiring harness from the ABS Control Module with ignition enabled as part of the maintenance procedure. Users also need to detach the ABS Control Module electrical connector from the ABS Control Module unit then later disconnect the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) electrical connector from the ABS Control Module system. Clean up the 6 ABS Control Module to BPMV screws while simultaneously cleaning the ABS Control Module/BPMV assembly surface. The failing ABS Control Module requires a replacement instead of repair thus you must disconnect the ABS Control Module from the BPMV. Installation requires cleaning of BPMV seal surfaces after which you must put the ABS Control Module onto the BPMV before tightening its six screws to 3.2 Nm (28 inch lbs.). Use the BPMV electrical connector to connect the ABS Control Module while keeping the ignition switch off and then attach the ABS Control Module electrical connector to the ABS Control Module. The ABS Control Module connector position assurance should be installed to the ABS Control Module electrical connector and users should leverage the tab to position the connector into its locked state. The vehicle descent process begins by replacing the left front wheelhouse extension and left front wheel followed by vehicle lowering. The ABS Control Module operating without programming can cause multiple systems such as DRP/ABS/TCS/VSES/TIM/VES to work poorly or become inoperable when equipped and may produce DTCs C1248 or C1255. A replacement ABS Control Module needs programmed software which matches the vehicle specifications before installation. Clear the DTCs by using the scan tool then complete the ABS Diagnostic System Check.
