2004 Buick Rainier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2004 Buick Rainier?
A: Before starting Brake Pad replacement check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. If the fluid exceeds the halfway mark between maximum and minimum limits then use a fluid extractor to bring the level to midway. Lift the vehicle and then extract both the tire and wheel unit. Apply the large c-clamp on top of brake caliper housing to press the Brake Caliper Piston while screwing the bolt until the piston moves backward enough to release the caliper from the rotor. After disconnecting the upper brake caliper bolt and rotating the rear brake caliper down you should take out the brake pads and pad retaining clips from both the brake caliper and mounting bracket, plus the retaining clip from the brake caliper. Wipe the brake caliper mounting bracket with denatured alcohol and let it air dry through non-lubricated filtered air. To install new brake pads you should use fresh Brake Pad retaining clips first. Locate the clips on the brake caliper mounting bracket then put on brake pads. Make sure the retaining clip for the brake pads fits correctly into the caliper housing. Put the brake caliper retaining clip back in while guiding the rear brake caliper up to its place and screwing the upper brake caliper bolt tight at 31 nm. Place the tire and wheel back in position while lowering the vehicle body then top up the brake master cylinder when needed. Push the Brake Pedal down gradually yet with force to make brake pads settle and let the friction material smooth against the rotors.
