- Q: How to replace the rear wheel hub on 2004 Cadillac CTS?A: First lift the vehicle then support it securely before taking off the tire and wheel plus the brake rotor at the rear. First unscrew and dispose of the wheel drive shaft nut then unplug both the abs sensor electrical connector and connector from the backing plate. Disconnect the parking brake cable bracket from the knuckle through its mounting bolts before removing the bolts. You can remove the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub unit by inserting the axle remover (J 45859) or a similar tool. Then take out the wheel bearing/hub assembly with its backing plate from the knuckle by removing all mounting bolts. A Wheel Hub remover tool is needed when the wheel bearing/hub needs full removal from the drive axle. To complete the replacement, the new wheel bearing/hub and backing plate need to be installed on the knuckle then mounted using torque specs of 125 nm (92 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the parking brake cable bracket back in place using its bolts at 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Connect the abs sensor electrical wires into the backing plate before connecting them to the main system. Install the new drive shaft wheel nut first then use 160 nm (118 ft. Lbs.) torque to secure it. After that add new brake rotor and wheel and tire. Finally, lower the vehicle.
