2004 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2004 Cadillac Seville?
A: The first step to replace the powertrain control module (PCM) requires you to turn the ignition off to shield the internal pcm components from damage during connector and power connection handling. Write down the indices for both transaxle fluid and engine oil life while disconnecting the battery negative lead. The first step includes removing the screw that connects the intake air duct/resonator to the pcm housing followed by unscrewing the Air Filter housing clamps on top of the air cleaner housing assembly before pulling the intake air duct/resonator assembly upward to unhook the air cleaner cover and pcm. Remove the pcm by first pulling the air cleaner element assembly toward the fender to break it free from the air inlet assembly. Then detach the pcm connector fastening bolts while disconnecting both pcm connectors. Before pcm installation complete any off-board programming tasks. Connect the pcm connectors after the pcm installation by tightening the screws to 8 nm (71 lb in). You should install the air cleaner cover to the air inlet housing before snapping on assembly clamps and aligning the intake air duct/resonator assembly and placing the screw onto the assembly. Tighten the clamp to 3 nm (27 lb in). The battery negative cable needs reconnection followed by pcm programming.
