2004 Chevrolet Aveo Front Cross-Member Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Front Cross-Member in the front suspension on 2004 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The process begins by uninstalling the front wheels and following with a removal of the Control Arm ball joint then the lower stabilizer shaft link nut before the tie rod end ball joint. The engine mounting reaction rod bolts need removal before draining power steering fluid while taking out the power steering pipe fittings. Pay attention to hot parts because they create safety hazards that endanger your person. Hot engine temperatures are safety hazards that mandate avoiding the removal procedure on each component. First remove the intermediate shaft lower joint and the crossmember assembly while providing support to prevent the crossmember from falling when you remove the bolts. Then remove the stabilizer bar and power steering gear set followed by the Control Arm from the crossmember. Installation begins with mounting the stabilizer bar and power steering gear set and Control Arm to the crossmember before tightening the front to body nut and rear to body bolt to 150 nm (111 ft. Lbs.). Attaching intermediate shaft lower joint fittings requires 22 nm (16 ft. Lbs.) torque on power steering pipe fittings. To install the mounting reaction rod bolts, tighten them to 60 nm before you install the tie rod end ball joint nut to 45 nm. Finish by installing the Control Arm ball joint before tightening the lower stabilizer shaft link nut.
