How to replace the shock absorber on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?

The first step to change the Shock Absorber begins by moving the rear compartment carpet to reveal the Shock Absorber upper mounting nut so it can be removed. Lift the vehicle with a hoist and take off the tire together with the wheel. A jackstand placed under the rear axle should maintain Shock Absorber tension before removing the upper mounting bolts. Release tension on the Shock Absorber by lowering the jackstand before removing its lower mounting bolt then taking out the Shock Absorber from the vehicle. The Shock Absorber needs to be placed into position before installing and tightening the lower mounting bolt to 70 n.m (51 lb ft). After setting the rear axle with a jackstand in position to align the Shock Absorber upper mounting bolts, proceed with installing then tightening these bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Lower the vehicle and place the Shock Absorber upper mounting nut secure with a torque of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Install the wheel along with the tire while replacing the rear compartment carpet like it was before.
