2004 Chevrolet Classic ABS Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2004 Chevrolet Classic?
A: Vehicle support on a suitable hoist becomes the first step before starting ABS Control Module (ABSCM) replacement. Start the replacement by taking out the connector position assurance (CPA) from its position on the connector lock tab under the left engine splash shield. The abscm harness connector may be detached from the abscm when the lock tab is pushed down while sliding the connector cover to its open position. Clean the abscm/bpmv assembly while removing the 4 abscm to bpmv screws without using a tool and taking care not to damage the bpmv surface or solenoid valves. Safely separate the abscm from the bpmv by pulling it away. The installation requires the application of alcohol on both abscm gasket and bpmv surface through a clean rag followed by mounting the abscm onto the bpmv. Secure the abscm on the bpmv through installation of its four screws which require tightening to a torque of 5 nm (44 inch lbs.). Attach the abscm harness connector to the abscm unit followed by pushing down the tab which locks the harness then placing the connector cover in the correct locked position. Reinstall the left engine splash shield, lower the vehicle, then conduct the diagnostic system check - abs. Finally, put the cpa back into position.
