2005 Chevrolet Classic Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2005 Chevrolet Classic?
A: The first task to replace a brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) involves removing both battery and battery tray. Make a mental note of the brake pipe locations that will need installation. The brake pipes leading to the bpmv require detachment with proper end coverage to stop dripping and contamination before the braking pipes from the master cylinder disconnect from the bpmv. Start by supporting the vehicle on a suitable hoist then remove both front and left engine splash shields. The ebcm connector should have its connector position assurance (CPA) removed from the connector. Push down the lock tab before opening the sliding connector cover to detach the ebcm harness connector from the ebcm. First detach the bpmv retaining nut before extracting the ebcm/bpmv assembly from the vehicle to split the ebcm from its attachment to the bpmv. Connect the ebcm with the bpmv before applying 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) torque when tightening the system's 4 screws. Reinstall the ebcm/bpmv assembly into the vehicle and tighten the bpmv retaining nut to 10 nm (7 ft. Lbs.). Then reassemble the left and front engine splash shields. Use the ebcm harness connector to attach to the ebcm housing before pressing down the lock tab and sliding the connector cover back for final lock. Place the cpa into its designated position after reinstalling both the left and front engine splash shields. Check the brake pipe connections to bpmv before lowering the vehicle to prevent wheel lockup that might result in personal injury. Connect the master cylinder brake pipes to the bpmv and tighten the fittings to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)the bpmv must have caliper and Wheel Cylinder brake pipes attached by using equal torques to secure them. Provide power to the system by replacing the battery tray and battery before conducting diagnostic system check - vehicle in vehicle dtc information.
