2005 Chevrolet Classic Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace the Brake Disc on 2005 Chevrolet Classic?
A: In order to replace the Brake Disc, the vehicle must first be raised and suspended, after that, the tire and wheel assembly should be removed. Compress the piston into the bore of the caliper with a c-clamp until just enough to move the caliper away from the disc while keeping force on it and pull it out. Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire or equivalent so as not to damage the hydraulic flexible brake hose. Then, unbolt the caliper bracket bolts while retaining the brake flexible hose bolt, and slide the brake caliper complete along with the caliper mounting bracket off the suspension knuckle but ensure the hydraulic brake flexible hose is not under tension. Line up the Brake Disc to the wheel studs and pull out the Brake Disc. Prior to installation, clean all rust and other contaminants from the hub/axle flange (Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit (J 42450-A) and from the Brake Disc mating surfaces (Rotor Resurfacing Kit (J 41013). Check the mating surfaces to be free of foreign particles and install Brake Disc to hub/axle flange with matchmark for orientation. Measure the assembled lateral runout (LRO) of Brake Disc to verify the runout is meet the specifications; in case it exceeds the specification adjust appropriately. Replace the brake caliper and Brake Caliper Bracket as a set with the suspension knuckle, followed by the tire and wheel assembly. There is no need for thorough cleaning, either using technology or by hand. The car should come with wires that enable transferring data with respect to gear shifting. For an electric car, the motor will connect directly to the wheels, through which the car will be able to select the right gear for a particular field or situation, also ensuring road spin. Finally, lift the vehicle up and, if required, burnish the pads and discs.
