• Q: How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?

  A: When replacing the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil, the sir system has to be disabled first. Last name: remove the system of sir, the upper and lower shrouds as well as the Steering Wheel. Disengage the Steering Wheel column wire harness from the wire harness straps, remove the retaining ring and the air bag clock spring on the Steering Shaft. Straighten the wheels ahead and center the air bag clock spring assembly if needed. Mount the present air bag clock spring assembly into the Steering Shaft assembly by placing it properly, orientating the opening in the horn tower and the locating bump in the middle of the two tabs of the lock housing cover and sleeve assembly and pressing it against the Steering Shaft assembly. If you are installing a new air bag clock spring assembly, then it should be pre-centered, then it should be placed where it can be aligned the same as before, and then it should be removed and discarded with the centering tab placed. Next, install the retaining ring on to the Steering Shaft assembly, run the lower coil wire harness down the steering column, and reconnect the Steering Wheel column wire harness to the wire harness straps. Lastly, reinstall the Steering Wheel, upper and lower shrouds, the sir system, and turn on the sir system.
