  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Sensor in the Front End on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
    A: If replacing the Inflatable Restraint Front End Sensor, first disable the SIR system. Do not strike or jolt the sensor, and make sure that it is well attached prior to the application of power to avoid SIR deployment or personal injuries. Remove the radiator upper air baffle and deflector and then remove orange connector position assurance (CPA) from the yellow sensor harness connector and disengage the harness connector from the sensor. Unbolt the sensor and accomplish its removal from the upper radiator core support. For installation, you must first clean the mounting surface off dirt, grease, or impurities, connect the harness connector to the sensor and install the CPA into the yellow sensor harness connectors . Put the sensor horizontally in front of the upper radiator core support with an arrow pointing in the front direction of the vehicle and tighten the sensor bolts to 9 N.m (80lb in). Finally, enable SIR system and reinstall the Radiator upper air baffle, and deflector.
