  A: Before replacing the powertrain control module (PCM) researchers must confirm the correct replacement unit by checking the malfunctioning pcm. The first step is to disconnect the negative Battery Cable before removing the left front fender brace and air cleaner duct and cover by unscrewing their two screws. The pcm and its related wiring harness may be taken off the air cleaner housing assembly without disconnecting any electrical connectors. Proceed to detach the pcm electrical connectors before taking out the pcm unit. Attach the pcm to its electrical connectors and tighten each connection to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Following this put back the wiring harness with the pcm into the air cleaner housing assembly. Mount the air cleaner housing cover using its two screws which should be tightened to 4 n.m (35 lb in). Install the air cleaner intake duct along with the left front inner fender brace and then reconnect the negative Battery Cable. The new pcm needs service programming system (SPS) programming for its initialization process.
