2004 Chevrolet Malibu Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2004 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The first step to replace the Fuel Rail assembly requires depreciation of fuel system pressure. Begin the replacement by disconnecting the air cleaner outlet resonator followed by removing the vacuum pipe from the Fuel Pressure Regulator along with detachment of engine fuel supply and return pipes. After disconnecting the Fuel Injector harness connectors you should remove the Fuel Rail attaching studs while maintaining the terminals and spray tips of fuel injectors free from damage. Position the Fuel Rail toward backwards and up before lifting the fuel injectors out of their cylinder head port connection and then swivel the rail downward to remove both the rail and injectors. New lower o-rings should be used during installation of the fuel injectors while all injector tip o-rings require lubrication before entering the Intake Manifold. The installation of the Fuel Rail requires a downwards position of the fuel injectors into the cylinder head ports followed by forward alignment of the Fuel Rail and careful injector port entry. Secure the Fuel Rail attaching studs by tightening them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The fuel connector housings should be installed with a secure connection followed by placement of supply and return fuel pipes and regulator vacuum pipe mounting. Install the resonating component at the air cleaner outlet and reconnect the negative power cable as the last installation step before inspecting for fuel leaks. Conclude the process by installing the negative Battery Cable then perform a fuel leak inspection by switching ignition on with engine off during two seconds while observing for leaks followed by ten seconds of ignition off and another two-second ignition on check.
