2004 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?
A: A first step in replacing the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor would be to switch OFF the ignition, and lift the vehicle to an appropriate height. Drain the cooling system below the ECT sensor, then bring the vehicle down. Turn off the ignitor/key, disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector, and unplug the ECT sensor. To install, apply the ECT sensor threads with the sealer GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/n 10953480) or a similar sealer. Mount the ECT sensor and tighten the latter to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). I have connected the ECT sensor electrical connector and filled the engine coolant. Take utmost care while manipulating the coolant sensor because its malfunctions will influence the working of the fuel control system. Make sure that the replacement components are the correct part for the application, follow the specified torque to prevent damage.
