2005 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a system on 2005 Buick Century?
A: The first step to replace the condenser involves recovering all refrigerant from the system. Start by taking off the air cleaner assembly followed by removing the Radiator from the vehicle. After the installation completes check the fittings for leaks using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). First disconnect the condenser tube by loosing its tube nut on the condenser. Next disconnect the a/c compressor hose by removing its block fitting nut from the condenser. Lift out the condenser by tilting its top towards the vehicle's rear and make sure its lower rubber mounts stay in their place. Disembark the upper rubber mounts around the condenser. When replacing a condenser unit you need to add refrigerant oil into it. Position the upper rubber mounts of the new condenser into position before slotting them into the lower rubber mounts while maintaining the correct orientation of the upper mounts. To begin, position the condenser top properly before adding new o-ring seals to both the a/c compressor hose and the condenser tube. Screw the condenser tube into its place and use a torque wrench to tighten the condenser tube nut to 27 n.m (20 lb ft). Connect the a/c compressor hose to the condenser then tighten the a/c compressor hose block fitting nut to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). The last steps include installing the Radiator and air cleaner assembly followed by evacuating and recharging the a/c system before using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) for a leak test.
